When you are setting up items there couple be multiple people involve in the configuration of the data. Usually at least one for the optional side and one for the finance side. In D365 the cost administration workspace is handy to review the state of items and what has been setup on them.
There are a number of tiles and lists that will give you some indications of stages of setup, you can also add your own. One example is the all released products with no active cost this will list items that haven’t had a cost price setup, this will be handy especially if you are using standard cost.
