The ability to use SharePoint as a storage location for documents in Document handling was added in the AX2012 R2 release. In prior versions documents could be referenced via URL if they where stored on SharePoint but the AX2012 R2 features give you the ability to attach and store documents in the library when attaching to a record in AX. This video gives a quick example of this using the customer master file.
