When you are setting up for procurement you have to make a decisions if you want to catalog all the items for your employees to purchase or you just purchase on categories to avoid that maintenance work. If you purchase by categories then you usually still want to communicate to the supplier which one their items numbers you are wanting to purchase. In this video we take a quick walk through of how the external item number flows form an external punch out catalog, through requisition, through purchase order.

hello – what set up do I need to do if I have the items set up in my system and I want the punch out to come back and populate the item number on my requisition?

You normally do punch-out to avoid having to setup your own items so you normally use category based purchasing. In the punch out you would collect the vendors item number for example. https://organicax.com/2014/10/16/external-item-handling-with-punch-out-catalog/
