There was a little search feature that was added in AX2012 R3 that might be handy for sales order entry people search for customers. There is a little setup but it’s not too complicated that allows you to built the full text index. This video gives you a quick walk through.

One thing to mention as you see in the video I run the refresh/index process as a batch process so it keeps the index updated in the background instead of manually running it.
